Culprits in Sowjanya case must be brought to justice : DVS

Mangalore, Oct 18, 2013 : Former chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda  has said the government should think in terms of handing over the Sowjanya rape and murder case to the CBI if the parents of the victim are not satisfied with the CID probe.

Speaking to reporters here on October 17, Thursday, Gowda said the present government should consider the demands of the people and order a CBI probe. He also recalled how the erstwhile BJP government had without any hesitation  handed over the case to the CID.

At the same time, Gowda took strong exceptions to the efforts made by some forces to malign the Dharmasthala Kshetra and create tension. He made it clear that his party would never encourage such things.

The former CM also said the real culprits behind the Sowjanya case should be brought to justice.

On the problems faced by areca growers due to Kole disease  he urged the government to release Rs 162 crore as compensation at the earliest. He also staged that affected growers will stage a protest at Puttur on October 29.

Referring to the controversial Yettinahole project, DVS said the project would do no harm and assured that he would request the irrigation department officials to issue  clear the doubts of the public.
