Covid pandemic has claimed lives of over 100 journalists in state : Shivananda Tagaduru

Mangaluru, Jun 18, 2021: Over 100 journalists have succumbed to Covid-19 infection in the state during the pandemic, said Shivananda Tagaduru, President of the Karnataka State Working Journalists’ Union.

He was  speaking during his visit to the Press Club and interaction with Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Union on June 18,  Friday.

Pointing out that journalists  have discharged their duties amid challenges during the pandemic, he said as many as 31 journalists have lost their lives in the first wave and around 70 during the second wave. He said the families of 31 deceased journalists have received a  compensation of Rs 5 lakhs. He also thanked the state government for considering the journalists as Frontline Covid warriors.

On this occasion, he launched the Mulki Taluk Journalists Association.

Asian Journalists Union President Madan Gowda, DK Working Journalists Union President Srinivas Nayak Indaje,  Jagannath Shetty Bala, Press Club President Annu Mangalore and others were present.
