Couple killed, 11 others injured in road mishap at Charmady Ghat

Belthangady, Nov 4, 2013: A couple lost their lives while eleven others sustained serious injuries when the Eicher Tempo in which they were travelling hit an embankment and rolled into a gorge on the fifth curve of Charmady Ghat.

The deceased are Kanakaraj(49) and his wife Chikkamma (46) hailing from Hassan, but residents of Bangalore.  The couple’s son Chethan,  relatives Kavitha, Prajwal, Yashodamma, Latha, Umesh, Aruna, Renuka and driver Govindaraj were among the injured.

The mishap occurred when the families of Kanakaraj and Govindaraj   were on a pilgrim tour to Dharmasthala from Bangalore. The vehicle hit the embankment while negotiating a curve.

The injured have been admitted to various hospitals.
