Convention Turns Violent - 2 dead In Kasargod

Kasargod, Nov 15: The Muslim League Convention turned into a violent event; and in the ensuing violence, policemen and civilians were injured, houses were pelted with stones, police vehicles were destroyed, and 2 were killed. 

Some Muslim League activists allegedly destroyed CPM and BJP flags during a bike rally, which formed part of the Convention. Angered BJP and CPM activists began a verbal quarrel with the Muslim League activists, which later turned violent. The police had to intervene with lathi charge. When that failed to disperse the wild mob, they fired into the air and burst 12 teargas bombs.

Finally, they had to open fire at the crowd and Shafique (18) was killed on the spot. Shortly thereafter, some unknown assailants stabbed Mohammed Asher (20) when he was just getting into a Karndakkad - Kasargod bus. 

Some houses in Amai Colony and some shops at Karandakkad have been stoned. Two police jeeps have been damaged. Several people, including 13 policemen, have sustained injuries. 

To maintain peace, senior police officials have set up camp in the area and reserve police have been brought.
