It is believed that the release of drainage water to the pond has led to contamination of water resulting in death of fish.

Though the corporation had spent as much as Rs 25 lakhs to develop the pond, it is said it remained neglected mainly owing to differences between MCC Commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde and Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo.

A few local residents point out that even as the process of rejuvenating the pond was nearing completion, the drainage water was released to the pond deliberately.

They also point out that the place is stinking. They say a complaint with the MCC Commissioner has been of no avail.

People of the area fear health hazard to them and their children and want the Corporation to act immediately.

The local corporator Surendra too blames the MCC Commissioner and says despite  visit to the spot thrice in the past, the MCC officials have not thought of cleaning the pond.

MLA JR Lobo who is in Shimoga  said he would visit the place after  his return and added that the Commissioner ought to have taken measures to redress the problem once it was brought to his notice.
