Speaking to reporters at the Congress Bhawan on January 25, Wednesday, Surjewala said that the Yatra would focus on the development of the coastal and Malnad regions which he said have been betrayed by the BJP government by giving assurances that remain unfulfilled.

The Yatra will begin from Sullia on February  5 while the second phase will begin on February 16 and will be held upto March 10. The Yatra aims at the making the regions prosperous and also to sensitize people against the communal polarization resorted to by the BJP, he said.

He said though Mangaluru had the potential to be an IT hub, the BJP government had failed to initiate any measure in this direction.

District Congress President Harish Kumar, MLA U T Khader, party leaders  B K Hariprasad, Ramanatha Rai and others were present.
