Mangaluru, Feb 11, 2024: Saleem Ahmed, the working president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), announced in Mangaluru on Sunday, February 11, that the KPCC will unveil its initial list of Congress candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections by the end of February.
Addressing the press, Ahmed disclosed that district party observers, in collaboration with district party unit presidents and other officials, have compiled a roster of candidates, ensuring a minimum of four contenders for each constituency. He mentioned that the party has conducted an internal survey, with another survey underway to assess the constituencies.
Ahmed confirmed that the list of eligible candidates has been forwarded from KPCC to the All India Congress Committee (AICC), with the verification and survey processes ongoing. He attributed the delay in the announcement to Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Highlighting the party’s expectations, Ahmed stated that the internal survey predicts the Congress securing over 20 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha election in Karnataka. He credited this anticipated success to the guarantees offered by the Congress and criticized the BJP for what he termed as a decade of mismanagement at the center.
Additionally, Ahmed pointed out that the BJP leadership is cognizant of the challenges they face in the state, prompting them to convene a party meeting with the presence of Amit Shah.
