Udupi, March 12, 2012 : Oscar Fernandes, the general secretary of AICC and Rajya Sabha MP, said that the central government is committed to the implementation of the Sachar Committee Report, which is all about the pathetic condition of India’s Muslim community.
Addressing minority committee leaders at Congress Bhavan on Sunday at a meeting held as part of the Congress campaign for the Udupi – Chikmagalur Lok Sabha by polls, he said that the Congress is committed to welfare of poor people in general and the minorities in particular.
Nazeer Ahmed, the former minister, spoke on the occasion, urging Muslim leaders to realize that the JD (S) has a hidden agenda of splitting secular and minority votes so that the BJP can come to power. He accused H. D. Kumaraswamy, the former chief minister, and H. D. Deve Gowda, the former prime minister, of helping the BJP come to power in Karnataka.
Rubbishing the BJP’s claims that it is more concerned about minority welfare than the JD (S) and the Congress, he said that the BJP government does not have a single Muslim leader in its cabinet, illustrating the party’s anti-Muslim nature.
A number of Congress leaders, including Gulzar Banu, the mayor of Mangalore, were present.
