Condolence meeting held in honor of Dr. V. S. Acharya

Udupi, Feb 15, 2012: A condolence meeting in honor of Dr. V. S. Acharya, the district-in-charge minister for Udupi and state higher education minister, who died of a massive heart attack on the morning of Feb 14 Tuesday, was jointly organized by the district administration, the city municipal council, and various other departments in Ammanni Ramanna Shetty Auditorium. 


A number of VIPs and common people attended this event during which rich tributes were paid to the late minister. Prominent BJP leaders L. K. Advani, CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda, and others spoke on the occasion.

L. K. Advani said that whenever he thinks of Udupi, he also automatically thinks of Dr. V. S. Acharya. 


Acknowledging the role played by Dr. V. S. Acharya in the BJP’s coming to power for the first time in the state, he said that Dr. Acharya was known for his hard work. Stating that Dr. Acharya is a role model for all aspiring politicians, he said that he has definitely demonstrated how a politician can function in all honesty and serve the nation. 


Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that Dr. Acharya’s life was an open book. He had a successful political career without compromising his ideals or hurting anyone. Known for his mild temper, Dr. Acharya could instil confidence even in the midst of opposition.

Jayaprakash Hegde, the Congress leader and former minister; Ananth  Kumar, the BJP MP; K. S. Eshwarappa, the state president of the BJP; ministers Vishweshwar Bhat Kageri, Shobha Karandlaje, and Basavaraj Bommai; MLAs Mahantesh Kaujalagi, Yogish Bhat, Kota Shrinivasa Poojary, Raghupathi Bhat, and Lalaji R. Mendon; MLCs Captain Ganesh Karnik and Bharathi Shetty; MP Nalin Kumar Kateel; Fr. Fred Mascarenhas, the parish priest of Udupi; former MLAs Padmanabha Kottary, Nagaraj Shetty, and Sunil Kumar; Kiran Kumar, the president of the Udupi CMC; Prathap Reddy, the IGP of Western Zone, and many others were also present at the condolence meeting.
