Uppinangady, Oct 4, 2013 : Two women who had entered a jewellery shop in the heart of Uppinangady town on October 3, Thursday, were successful in cheating the owner and escaping with a gold necklace weighing 40 grams.

The video footage of the cheats has been recorded in the CC camera which is likely to help in the probe.
It is said the women, reportedly of Tamil origin, had entered the Sri Hari Jewellers near the bus stand at around 11.30 am and produced a 40 gram gold necklace which they said they had bought for their daughter’s wedding but intended to exchange.
The shop owner Ganesh Bhat tested the necklace and agreed to exchange. However, the women who seemed not happy with the deal, left the shop. But they returned shortly after saying they were ready to exchange and handed over their necklace and bought a gold necklace weighing 40 grams.
It is learnt that they even paid Rs 500 extra to the shopkeeper. It was only when the shopkeeper later tested the necklace which they had given in exchange that he realized that it was an artificial necklace. The women who had initially brought a gold necklace had during their second visit brought an artificial necklace and easily cheated the owner.
A complaint has been lodged with the Uppinangady police.
