Mangaluru, Oct 5, 2026: Several parts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasaragod districts, except Sullia taluk, received light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in the early morning hours on Monday. The Western Ghats areas of Dakshina Kannada also witnessed thunderstorms on Sunday evening. Moderate rain was reported in some taluks of Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga bordering the coastal region.
According to the latest forecast, coastal Karnataka is likely to remain cloudy during the day due to surface circulations, with drizzles to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms in several areas. Rainfall could be heavier along the coast, though it may reduce after noon. Coastal taluks of Uttara Kannada are also likely to receive rain during the day.
Rain is expected in the Western Ghats areas of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi during the evening. However, the possibility of rain from eastern clouds could reduce if westerly winds prevail. Isolated evening thunderstorms are likely to continue across the coastal districts until October 10.
Moderate rain is forecast in the Malnad districts of Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu and Hassan. Higher rainfall is expected in Sagara, Hosanagara, Thirthahalli, Sringeri, Mudigere, Sakleshpur and Madikeri taluks. After moderate rain over the next one or two days, isolated showers are likely to continue in the Malnad region until October 10, following which rainfall is expected to decrease significantly.
All districts in south interior Karnataka are likely to experience cloudy weather. Many areas of Chamarajanagar, Mysuru, Mandya, Ramanagara, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Bengaluru Rural, Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Davanagere and Vijayanagara may receive drizzle to moderate rain during the evening and night. Rain is expected to continue across south interior Karnataka for the next two days.
In north interior Karnataka, cloudy conditions are likely in Belagavi, Dharwad, Bagalkot, Gadag, Haveri, Koppal and Ballari districts, with isolated drizzles to light rain expected. A small circulation over the Arabian Sea near Belagavi may bring rain to the region on Monday.
Weather conditions during October, as the southwest monsoon withdraws and before the onset of the northeast monsoon, often lead to the formation of small cyclonic circulations over the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. These surface circulations draw moisture-laden clouds and winds into southern India through Kerala and Tamil Nadu, resulting in rainfall across parts of Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
The circulation has brought rain to coastal districts since Sunday, though cloud cover may reduce from Tuesday. The weather department has indicated that evening thunderstorms could continue for another three to four days.
