Coast guard continues to inspire the next generation

Mangaluru, Jan 13, 2018: As a part of 41st Raising Day celebrations of Indian Coast Guard (which falls on 01 February 2018), Coast Guard Karnataka had been continuing interaction with students from various schools. Students belonging to Government Schools at Mangalore paid a visit to Indian Coast Guard Ship Shoor on 13 January 2018.

The students were provided an insight about the Indian Coast Guard and the working environment onboard ship so as to motivate them and make them better citizens.

It may be recalled that Indian Coast Guard is doing yeoman’s service in rescuing precious lives at sea both during natural calamities like ‘Cyclone Ockhi’ or man-made disasters like oil spills, fire incidents onboard merchant ships. Indian Coast Guard ships based at Mangalore saved 81 lives during recent cyclone Ockhi, which hit the West coast of India. This year, so far, ships of Coast Guard at Mangalore have saved 192 lives in distress at sea.

ICGS Shoor staff interacted with the students and brought out the importance of safety and security of the maritime zones of the Nation. The students were also encouraged to hone their educational knowledge and the practical utility for the betterment of the society.

The students took keen interest in the systems and functioning of ICGS Shoor. Queries raised by the students were answered by the ship’s staff.

Deputy Inspector General SS Dasils, TM, the Commander, Coast Guard Karnataka, expressed his satisfaction over the preparation of the NEXT-GEN for their future endeavours. The Commander stated, “The eagerness of the students to learn and improve should be maintained. The fire in belly will make them worthy successors in the future”.
