Coast Guard holds pollution response exercise

Mangalore, Mar 28, 2012 : A pollution response exercise was organized by oil handling agencies in collaboration with the regional Coast Guard at New Mangalore Port (NMP) on March 27 Tuesday.

The purpose was to test and improve the ability of the Coast Guard to prevent problems related to oil spills and deal with them if necessary. The personnel were also trained to prevent sea water pollution and to preserve the environment. The trainees were even taught how to spray water on a ship.

Samudra Prahari, a specially constructed pollution response vessel belonging to the Indian Coast Guard was used for the exercise. The only vessel of its kind in Asia, this ship can handle any oil spill at sea.
