City Principal judge says pubs cause of rising drug cases

Mangaluru, Sep 25, 2019: Principal District and Sessions Judge In city Kadlooru Satyanarayanacharya on September 24, Tuesday said drugs are common in pubs in the city and alcohol is spiked with drugs too.   Awareness programme was organised jointly by the police department, in association with district administration and Dakshina Kananda District Working Journalists’ Association at Canara  College.

 

“According to the information from my own sources,  youth are supplied drugs in pubs without their knowledge. The drug abuse takes place in the pubs without any care,” he said at a programme organised to create awareness on communal harmony, drug menace and cybercrime.

Justice Satyanarayanacharya said that a majority of people in the district have good income. The lifestyle and culture excuse makes parents  allow their young children to frequent pubs, they are ignorant of what the pubs serve.

“Last week, near mid night, the police had produced some engineering students in connection with the consumption of drugs. Speaking to them for a little while was a shock.  The information provided on the drugs network and its well set operation in Mangaluru was an eye opener,” he said.

“Officials who get to tackle the source of drug racket are shunted out in the name of transfers. The drug menace is increasing in the district. The network thrives on an agenda of destroying young lives and the country. It is a tragedy that officials who attempt to expose the network on the drug mafia are transferred immediately,” he rued.

City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha advised the students not to fall prey to narcotic drugs to get intoxicated during college or school days. “Drugs for intoxication is very dangerous.  Students can become passionate about the environment and immerse themselves amid nature and many interests. During my college days, I had travelled lakhs of kilometres on my bike,” he recollected.

“The network that supplies drugs is a group engaged in organised crime. The money from selling drugs is funding anti-national activities,” he said.

He also said the uncontrolled use of the mobile phone is very dangerous.  Use of  mobile phones excessively and  time on playing games later enter into cybercrime. Mobile phones should be restricted to communication only, he pointed out.
