Mangalore, July 8, 2011: Eminent criminal advocate B B Ravindranath Rai has been declared elected to Karnataka State Bar Council, the apex body of the lawyers in the state. He stood seventh among the 96 candidates in the fray from all over the state. In the preferential voting system, 25 candidates are declared elected to the Bar Council for a period of five years. Mr. Rai, who is a member of Mangalore Bar Association contested the elections for the first time.
It is also for the first time that a candidate from Mangalore has been declared elected in such standing. Ravindranath Rai joins the league of advocates from different parts of the state of the likes of Sadashiv Reddy, Boje Gowda, Vijaykumar Patil, Malleshappa, Harish and Shivaram in the top standings.
With a humble beginning, Rai entered the profession of legal practice in 1987 in angalore and presently has his offices in Karangalpady in Mangalore and at M G Road in Bangalore. He was the General Secretary of Mangalore Bar Association during the period 1992-9. A keen sports enthusiast, Rai is serving as the President of Karnataka Association of Body Builders and Vice President of Indian Body Builders and Fitness Federation, Aurangabad.
Thanking the members of the legal fraternity for supporting him to serve them at the apex body, Ravindranath Rai has assured that he would the objectives of the Bar Council of Karnataka to provide opportunities to advocates to expres their views and suggestions regarding all issues concerning the profession, welfare of its members, encouragement of junior advocates, representation of women advocates and safe guarding the dignity of the legal profession.
