Mangaluru, December 24, 2025: With Christmas around the corner, Mangaluru is buzzing with festive cheer as shoppers flock to markets and roadside stalls in search of stars, cribs, and other decorative items for the celebrations. Areas like Central Market, Hampankatta, and nearby localities are witnessing heavy footfall, particularly in the evenings.
Colourful paper and plastic stars of all sizes, illuminated stars, fairy lights, and lanterns are among the most popular purchases. Stalls featuring Nativity scenes—with figurines of Infant Jesus, Mary, Joseph, angels, shepherds, and animals—have drawn families preparing cribs at homes and churches. Vendors are also offering hay, moss, thermocol hills, miniature houses, and artificial trees to help shoppers recreate traditional Bethlehem scenes.
Shoppers said that setting up the crib and hanging the Christmas star are key elements of the festival, symbolising joy, hope, and togetherness. Many families, including children, were seen carefully selecting stars and crib accessories, making shopping a festive outing in itself.
Vendors expressed satisfaction over the response, noting a steady rise in sales compared to previous days. Many buyers have started shopping early to avoid last-minute rush, while some are opting for LED-lit and modern designs to complement traditional decorations.
Church premises and surrounding markets are expected to attract even larger crowds in the coming days, reflecting the festive spirit and communal harmony that Mangaluru is known for during the Christmas season.
