Charmadi Ghat traffic blocked for 7 hours as the lorry roll over

Belthangadi, 23 February 2011: With the lorry rolling over in the early hours of Tuesday at the 10th turn of Charmadi ghat, the traffic was blocked for 7 hours. The lorry coming from Chickmagalore carrying cardboards lost control and rolled over and as a result the traffic was blocked. Since early morning 03.00 am until the lorry is cleared at 10.00 am only smaller vehicles could pass through with difficulty and the bigger vehicles had to wait.

 

A team lead by Charmadi Hasanabba has arrived there to offload the goods and to pull up the lorry. In this month it is the 4th lorry falling off like this. Since the Charmadi ghat roads are full of ponds the driving of vehicles have been very difficult. When heavy vehicles are moving smaller vehicles will have problems moving. Though minor repairs are done in some places, it is still difficult to drive this road.


Responding on this issue Hasanabba said that let the government do the favour to the people by repairing this road. People from Dharmastala and many other places travel in this road and some times meet with such accidents in the middle of the night and find it very difficult, he said.

In the afternoon a Tempo traveler slipped to the hill below at the 4th turn as the driver lost control. All passengers travelling in it are safe. The tempo had slipped to the hill which is about 10 feet below the road.
