Charity with ’A Healing Touch’ inaugurated at Fr. Mullers Health Care Institution

: A CENTURY: with the theme ’ CHARITY with A HEALING TOUCH’ at Fr.Muller’s Health Care Institutions in Mangalore inaugurated  a run up to the culmination on 28 April,2011.

 

 

 

 

 


Sisters of Charity of Saints Bartholomea Capitanio & Vincenza Gerosa,   have now been here a 100 years at Fr.Muller Charitable Institutions, Mangalore. During the Eucharistic celebration on 28.04.2011; It was a solemn, sober, simple and homely ambiance.


Though the first Italian sisters stepped on the soil of Kananady, Mangalore on 24th January 1898, couldn’t continue their services because of the language problem and so they started their services at Prashanth Nivas, Jeppu. In 1912 the first three pioneers Sr.Giulia Suardi, Sr.Santa Cucci and Sr.Elvira Cima entered the portals with ardent Charity of CHRIST the Redeemer. Since then the sisters rendered their dedicated services towards the leprosy, cholera, plague, mentally challenged and other patients. Also worked in various departments like Homoeopathy manufacturing, medical store, rehabilitation centre.

 

 

 

 


If the hospital has a good name for the excellent Nursing care it’s because of the sisters who have toiled generously in starting the School of Nursing in 1950 and College of Nursing in 1987. Sr.Maria Theresa Fernandes is the founder principal of the Nursing School.


Number of sisters have given their  dedicated gifts for more than 25 years in the Institution.


Rev.Fr.Patrick Rodrigues, the director of the Institutions appreciated the noble services of the sisters and thanked them for the selfless services. Provincial Superior Sr.Irene Jane unfurled the plaque with a theme “A  centenary of Charity with a Healing Touch". She congratulated the sisters for keeping alive the flame of Charity lit by the pioneers and encouraged to be more compassionate and train the youth with the spirit of the ounders. She also thanked the management for good collaboration and cooperation.


The Superior General Mother Piercarla Mauri in her message urged the sisters to "imbibe the same spirit of our first sisters; deep humility and great enthusiasm, real and total self availability to radiate the passionate love of Jesus the Redeemer by our very presence" . The various initiatives are planned to mark this year as a memorable and remarkable one.


The quiet inauguration is in character of the traditions and humility of the congregation. It is hoped that the various institutions in Mangalore and the region will come up with fitting celebrations to mark this great event of Blessings to the people of  this area without discrimination of any kind. May this centenary year go on to being a mark of favour from the LORD to the dear Sisters of Charity and overflow to all the people concerned.
