Central Library organizes National Library Week and Book Exhibition

Mangalore, November 18: The National Library Week and Book Exhibition, jointly organized by the district administration and the District Central Library, was inaugurated at the Central Library on Light House Hill Road on Nov 18, Thursday.

Speaking about the benefits of reading, litterateur Amruth Someshwar urged parents to inculcate the habit of reading in their children. He also suggested that the government should initiate the Bhagya Saraswati scheme for children along the model of Bhagya Lakshmi.


The National Library Week and Book Exhibition will also comprise events such as seminars and various competitions such as essay writing, fancy dress, drawing, and others. Brand new books, which are not available anywhere else, will be exhibited for the benefit of avid readers.


Stating that the Central Library aims at attracting the student population and increasing membership, Central Library Deputy Director Raghavendra K. V said that the Central Library has 18 branches within city limits and that the National Library Week will be organized in each of these branches. The purpose of conducting the National Library Week is to enhance awareness of libraries and library services among the public and test promotional tools, he added
 

The Central Library, which was established in Jan 15, 1969, has more than 1,50,000 books, 20 weeklies, 20 dailies, 10 fortnightlies, and 15 monthlies. It has a total of 22,046 registered members.
