Mangalore, Jan 19: The Government will conduct census in Dakshina Kannada from February 9 to 28.
A special census for shelterless people in the city will be conducted on the night of February 28, according to T.K. Anil Kumar, Director, Directorate of Census. He was speaking at a meeting at the office of the Deputy Commissioner here on Monday. The meeting had been convened to review preparations for the census.
Mr. Kumar said “boat population” (those who go for fishing in boats) was more in the district. Hence the directorate had taken special care to ensure that these groups were not left out of the census.
Mr. Kumar said 2,801 enumerators had been appointed in the district to conduct census in 2,922 census blocks. There would be 281 enumerators in reserve. Thus there would be 3,082 enumerators. He said the enumerators would be trained from January 28 to February 5 at the taluk headquarters.
