Cattle smuggling leads to tension in Gurupur Kaikamba Mangalore, Aug 4, 2013: The cattle smuggling issue is still raging. In a latest case,  a youth of Gurupur Kaikamba area was brutally assaulted by a group  on August 3, Saturday night. The attack took place soon after an incident wherein a group of Bhajrangdal activists intercepted a pick-up vehicle allegedly smuggling cattle and handed it over to the police.

Sources said the driver of the pick-up vehicle and three others who were in the vehicle managed to flee the scene. Meanwhile, the injured youth named Shahul Hameed is undergoing treatment at the ICU of a private hospital in the city. Police have stepped up security in Gurupur to prevent any untoward incident.

The victim is learnt to have informed that he was returning home from a medical store when he was attacked. He  has also reportedly identified one of the assailants as Sheena.

In another incident, a youth was attacked near Sky Bakery at Pandeshwar  by a group. As per reports, the group asked the youth his name and then assaulted him.
