Case filed against Kumbale bedi festival committee for negligence during temple jatra

Manjeshwar, January 19, 2026: In connection with the Bedi Mahotsava held on Saturday night as part of the annual festival of Kanipura Sri Gopalakrishna Temple, the Kumbale police have registered a case against the Bedi Festival Committee.

A case has been filed against the committee president, Sadananda Kamath K., and members Lakshmana Prabhu Kumbale, Sudhakara Kamath, and Dayaraj. The police have taken suo motu action, stating that firecrackers were burst negligently and carelessly, posing danger to the devotees who had gathered for the festival.

For the well-known Kumbale Bedi festival, firecrackers were purchased from Naseema Udasinnama, wife of Mohammed Kunhi of Kudlu Kelugudde Road in Kasaragod, and the display was organized. However, a case has been registered against those involved for allegedly failing to follow safety and precautionary norms.

The firecracker display took place on Saturday night near the Devara Bedi Katte, in front of the Kumbale Police Station. A large number of people had gathered at the venue.
