Carmelites organize symposium on works of Wilfy Rebimbus

Mangalore, Dec 5, 2011: A symposium was organized on the songs and literature of late legendary Konkani singer Wilfy Rebimbus on the occasion of the third anniversary of Naman Ballok Jesu, a Konkani monthly published by Infant Jesus Shrine, held on Dec 4. 


Mrs. Meena Rebimbus, the wife of late Mr. Wilfy Rebimbus, was the chief guest of the event. Rev. Dr. Archibald Gonsalves, the provincial, presided.

A shraddanji was offered to the portrait of Mr. Wilfy Rebimbus, after which Naman Ballok Jesu editor Fr. Stephen Periera delivered the welcome address. The audience comprised writers, poets, and well wishers. 


Konkani poet Mr. Melwyn Rodrigues was the moderator. 


Mr. Dolphy Cascia presented the first paper on the social revolutionary aspects in the songs of Mr. Wilfy Rebimbus. Mrs. Concepta Alva spoke on the portrayal of women in the literature of Wilfy. Rev. Dr. Pius James D’Souza presented a paper on the presence of the religious teachings in the songs of the legendary singer. 


Writers Eddie Nett, Herolphius, and Eddie Sequeira shared their views after the paper presentation.
The provincial honored late Mr. Wilfy and lauded Fr. Stephen for organizing the event. Mr. Vishwas, the son of Mr. Wilfy, expressed his gratitude to the Carmelites for organizing this event.
