Canonization of Blessed Joseph Vaz : 3-day celebrations at Miracle Hill, Mudipu from Jan 14

Mangaluru, Jan 9, 2015: A three-day solemn celebrations will be organised at the Blessed Joseph Vaz Shrine on the Miracle Hill of Mudipu from January 14 to mark the canonization of  Blessed Joseph Vaz who would be raised  to the altar of sainthood by Pope Francis at a ceremony to be held  at Srilanka on January 14. He is the first saint from the coastal region to receive this honour.

Informing this to reporters at the Milagres Parish Hall on January 8, Thursday, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore said the  ceremony to be held at Mudipu will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at 4 pm on January 14. Earlier in the morning, Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza will celebrate a festal mass.  Msgr Dennis Moras Prabhu, Vicar General of Mangalore Diocese and Dr Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bangalore Diocese will celebrate the festal masses to be held on January 15 and 16 respectively at 10.30 am.

Fr Joseph Vaz  who will be raised to the altar of sainthood in Srilanka is  believed to have performed miracles at the hills at Mudipu.

 The statue of Blessed Joseph Vaz will be brought to the shrine from Panir  on January 9 in a tastefully decorated vehicle. On January 11 there will be a votive offering procession from Mudipu Church to the Blessed Joseph Vaz shrine.

 There will be adoration, confession and Novena prayers at the shrine every Friday from 10 am to 12.30 pm followed by lunch.
