Mangalore, Nov 26, 2013: Thousands of protestors, under the leadership of Communist Party of India (Marxist) organized a mass protest rally on Nov 26, Tuesday, demanding CBI probe into Sowjanya rape and murder case and other 463 unnatural deaths cases took place in Dharmasthala and Ujire.
The mass protest rally commenced from Dharmasthala and culminated in front of the DC office at noon.
Addressing the protestors, CPI(M) Parliamentary Party leader Basudev Acharya said that from several years many young girls are being raped and killed. Many lands and houses belonging to the poor are grabbed in the illegal way at Dharmasthala, following their own rule and law. Further such uncivilized activities must be stopped and the culprits must be punished with the CBI probe.
He also said that when a young girl was brutally gang-raped in Delhi, people marched out to the streets fighting for justice and the culprits were arrested within few months and punished, but in Sowjanya case in Dharmasthala, the state government took a year to demand CBI probe just after Dr Veerendra Heggade submitted the letter to Chief Minister.
He also said that Sowjanya case was not just the state but a national issue. Hence this issue must be discussed in the Parliament and the fight for justice must continue till real culprits are punished.
CPI(M) Central Committee leader U Vasuki said that out of 463 cases of unnatural deaths took place in Dharmasthala, 95 victims are young girls.
He said that the feudal system of land ownership that existed in the 17th century is still continued in 21st century in Dharmasthala. Even though constitution provided people with fundamental right to live, the government along with the influential people has taken right from 463 people who were killed in Dharmasthala.
CPI(M) state secretary G V Srirama Reddy, advocate S Shankarappa and CPI(M) leaders Vasanth Achary and Balakrishna Shetty were present.
