CPI (M) demands more funds for Dalit welfare

Mangalore, Mar 5, 2012: The CPI (M) organized a protest in front of the DC’s office on March 5 Monday demanding that the government should decide the budget for Dalits as per their population. 


In his protest address, District CPI (M) Secretary B. Madhava said that the Dalit population across the state is huge and that the state government is not earmarking sufficient funds for Dalit welfare as per their population. He urged to government to earmark 25 percent of the budget for Dalit welfare.

Accusing the state government of being least bothered about Dalit welfare, he said that funds set aside for Dalit welfare are not utilized in a proper manner and are either diverted or allowed to lapse. He also said that there are no laws to prevent fund diversion. 


Urging the state government to introduce Dalit welfare schemes, he said that there are several poor Dalit people and the government ought to issue Anthyodaya cards for their benefit. 


Lingappa Nanthoor, the secretary of the Dalita Hakkugala Samithi, and Sunil Kumar Bajal, the secretary of the CPI (M), were also present.
