CPI (M) and CSDR accuse MCC of misappropriating Dalit funds

Mangalore, September 20: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI (M)) led a group of aggrieved Dalits in protest against the Mangalore City Corporation’s (MCC) anti Dalit policies in front of the DC’s office on Monday.

Maruti Manpade, the state secretariat member of CPI (M), who is also the state convener of the Committee to Struggle for Dalit Rights (CSDR) launched the protest and said that the corporations of several cities all over Karnataka, including Mangalore, have been misappropriating funds earmarked for Dalit development.


Stating that the ruling class is responsible for the development of backward classes and castes according to the principles of the country’s constitution, Mr. Manpade urged the MCC to earmark additional funds for the development of the oppressed communities and not misappropriate it.


Sunil Kumar Bajal, the secretary of CPI (M) Mangalore City Committee, said that MCC staff, officers, and engineers are spending funds earmarked for Dalit development according to their own wish.
 

Krishnappa Konchady, the district convener of CSRD; Yashavanth Maroli, Vasanth Achary, and Balakrishna Shetty also participated in the protest.
