Speaking about the central government’s efforts to assist the state, he said that two central government teams visited Karnataka to study the situation and submitted reports to the central government. The teams remarked that, although it was the biggest disaster the state has ever faced, the state government has managed things so well that it was difficult to believe that state is disaster prone.

He also claimed that the BJP-led state government is the only government to give such a large pay to teachers, adding that teachers are now not only getting their salaries, but also TA, DA, and pension.

Further, he said that the state government has added to the existing list of welfare schemes for the public. The government has launched 151 service centres in 11 state departments according to the provisions of the Right to Service Act and has processed 15 lakh of the total 18 lakh applications it received.

Speaking on the occasion, BJP leader Ananth Kumar said that the central government has done nothing much to help people in the disaster-struck regions of the state. Commenting on Sonia Gandhi’s visit to Karnataka a month earlier to study its problems, the state government had requested a disaster-management fund of Rs. 6,500 crore, but she said that she has to discuss the issue in parliament. Finally, she sanctioned just Rs. 283 crore and released only Rs. 70 crore. On the other hand, the state government has sanctioned Rs. 600 crore in the budget.

Further, he said that the BJP will hold a Jana Sangharsh Abhiyan from June 7 to June 22 against petrol price hike, adding that the central government is collecting Rs. 35 per liter of petrol as taxes.

BJP leaders MP Nalin Kumar, G. T. Devegowda, ZP President Shailaja Bhat, Deputy Mayor Amithakala, Deputy Speaker Yogesh Bhat, G. K. Sulochana Bhat, Ramdas, MLA Krishna J. Palemar, Nithin Kumar, Padmanabha Kottari, Ayanur Manjunath, and many others were present at the press conference.
