Bus fares hiked by Re. 1 for first stage of journey

Mangalore, Nov 25, 2012: The district regional transport authority has agreed to the demands of the Canara Bus Operators’ Association and DK Bus Operators’ Association to hike fares of express buses, service buses, and urban and rural city buses from Monday.

The minimum fare is now Rs. 6 for the first 2kms in case of city buses and for the first 6.5kms for express and service buses.

Commuters will now have to pay an extra rupee for the first phase of their journey irrespective of the category of service. The fares for the rest of the journey vary according to the service, with the lowest hike being Re. 1 for t

he first two stages up to 13kms and Rs. 11 for the 25th stage in case of express and service buses.

To avoid having to deal with small change, fares have been rounded up to the nearest rupee.
