Brahmavara: Mescom engineer nabbed while accepting ₹20,000 bribe

Mangaluru, June 7, 2025: The Lokayukta police on Friday trapped Ashok Poojary, Assistant Executive Engineer with the Mangalore Electricity Company (MESCOM) at its Brahmavara office while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹20,000.

According to the complainant, Mr. Poojary had been allegedly harassing him for nearly two months to provide power connections to his house. He reportedly demanded a bribe of ₹20,000 to carry out the work. The complainant reported the matter to the Lokayukta Police Station in Udupi.

On Friday, the Lokayukta police laid a trap and caught Mr. Poojary while accepting the bribe amount at the Brahmavara Mescom office. He was taken into custody and further investigation was under way, said a release.
