Brahmavar: Illegal transport of Anna Bhagya rice busted; stock worth Rs 3.84 lakh seized

Brahmavar, Jul 29, 2026: In a joint operation, food department officials and the police on July 28, intercepted a lorry transporting rice meant for the government’s free Anna Bhagya scheme and seized the consignment valued at Rs 3.84 lakh.

According to the investigation, the rice had been loaded onto the lorry by Nagaraj Naik, owner of Sri Ganesh Rice Industries at Nada Maskeri in Kumta. The lorry, driven by K. Narasimha, was allegedly transporting the government-supplied rice to Shaji Trading Company in Kasargod, Kerala, on the instructions of lorry owner Girish Naik.

The raid was carried out following a tip-off received by Brahmavar Food Inspector Vasanth Kumar. The operation was conducted in front of Mahalaxmi Hotel in Manoor village with the assistance of Kota Police led by sub-inspector Praveen Kumar.

During the operation, officials seized 160 quintals of rice packed in 320 plastic bags, worth Rs 3.84 lakh, along with the lorry valued at Rs 3.50 lakh. The total value of the seized property is estimated at Rs 7.34 lakh.

A case has been registered at the Kota Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
