Mangaluru, September 21, 2025: The Social Justice Awareness Forum, Dakshina Kannada, has warned of boycotting the ongoing social and educational survey if the term “Christian” is not removed from the list of 47 Hindu sub-castes.

The resolution was passed at a round-table meeting of Hindu religious leaders and seers held at Balambhat Hall in the city on Saturday. Announcing the decision, Gurupura Vajradehi Math’s Rajasekharananda Swamiji said the government must immediately instruct the commission to drop the reference.

He demanded that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah declare the removal of the “Hindu Christian” category from the caste census, cautioning that continuing the survey in its current form could distort future reservations. “The commission’s move looks like an indirect push for religious conversions,” he alleged.

Swamiji also criticised the silence of bishops on the issue. “They should have objected to the inclusion of the term Christian alongside Hindu sub-castes. Instead, this addition is creating fear among smaller Hindu communities as it seems to encourage conversions,” he said.

He further accused the government of creating confusion in the caste census by excluding some communities from reservation while clubbing Christians and Muslims under Hindu categories.

The meeting was attended by Shivayogi Durgananda Swamiji of Maduru Shivagiri Math, Vidyananda Saraswati Swamiji of Om Shri Math, Mahabaleshwara Swamiji of Kaniyoor Math, Rudramuni Mahaswamiji of Gurupura Jangama Math, Shivananda Swamiji of Mulki, VHP leader Prof. M.B. Puranik, Hindu Jagarana Vedike’s K.T. Ullas, and Chitrapur Math’s Vidyendra Tirtha Swamiji.
