kasargod bomb12mar 3Kasargod Mar 3, 2012: Three pipe bombs were discovered on the fourth railway track near Cheruvathur Railway Station on March 3 Saturday. Since they were removed just a few minutes after the Cheruvathur – Mangalore train passed that way, the passengers can be said to have had a lucky escape. The bombs were accidentally spotted by a passerby.

When they were alerted about these bombs, the railway police rushed to the spot and covered the area with sand bags. Soon the place was teeming with police officers, bomb disposal squads, sniffer dogs, senior officers, and the railway police.

The officials feel that these are activities of an organized gang, which is bent upon derailing trains and disrupting normal lives. The senior officers have instructed railway officials to take all precautions to protect trains and their passengers. Alerts have been sounded and railway officials have been instructed to keep an eye on tracks, bridges, and other places that can be thus sabotaged.

Anti social elements have been always trying to derail trains and cause damage to life and property by placing concrete slabs, boulders, steel pipes, and others across the tracks. However, they were always either removed before any accident occurred or trains passed safely over them.
