Bird fever in Kerala: DK on alert

Mangaluru, April 22, 2024: Following the outbreak of Bird Flu in two Gram Panchayat areas of Alapuzha district in Kerala, the administration of Dakshina Kannada is taking precautionary measures and will open special check posts at Talapady, Jalsoor and Saradka from today in order to sanitize the vehicles which transport poultry from the district to Kerala, when they return from there after delivery of the products.

Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry Department Dr Arun Kumar said Alapuzha where bird fever has been reported is around 400 kms from Mangaluru and the administration is keeping a strict vigil as the virus can spread fast and can be transmitted to humans from birds. However the virus does not transmit from humans to humans, he said.
