
Mangalore, January 31: The Bijapur Women’s University will confer the Ph.D on four achievers, two of who are the renowned Mangalore-based Kannada writer Sara Aboobakker and the international athlete Malathi Holla. The Ph.D will be conferred on them at the university’s second convocation ceremony, which is scheduled to be held on Feb 4 at the university.

Governor Hans Raj Bharadwaj will confer the honors on these achievers in the august presence of Union Minister Purandeshwari, Higher Education Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya, Vice Chancellor Geetha Bali, and others.
Sara Aboobakker is widely acclaimed for her unconventional writings, through which she fought against injustice toward women, religious fundamentalism, gender inequality, and others, with special reference to the suffering of women in her own community.
Malathi Krishnamurthy Holla who hails from Udupi district was affected with polio at the age of 14 months, in spite of which she participated in athletic events and won more than 150 gold and several bronze and silver medals.
