Bengaluru: Siddaramaiah hails D K Shivakumar government, says it is on ‘right path’

Bengaluru, September 10, 2026: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday congratulated Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and said the government was moving in the “right direction” while continuing the Congress party’s guarantee schemes.
Speaking at the ‘Druda Karnataka Sankalpa’ event organised to mark the completion of 100 days of the D K Shivakumar-led government, Siddaramaiah said Shivakumar had worked to continue the guarantees while also introducing new ideas and programmes for the people.
“In three months, D K Shivakumar has put efforts to continue all guarantees. Alongside, he is trying to provide several new thoughts and programmes to the people. The Shivakumar-led government is proceeding on the right path,” he said.
The 78-year-old Congress leader expressed confidence that the government was “pro-poor” and said the party was working towards fulfilling the remaining promises made in its election manifesto.
‘Do Not Pay Heed to Opposition Criticism’
Siddaramaiah said Shivakumar had understood the problems faced by the people and urged him not to be distracted by criticism from the Opposition.
He alleged that the BJP was not in a position to speak about corruption and criticised BJP state president B Y Vijayendra for raising the issue.
Recalling the tenure of former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, Siddaramaiah launched a sharp attack on Vijayendra, saying, “When B S Yediyurappa was the chief minister, he used to behave as though he was the CM. Yediyurappa’s government was drowned in corruption. If such people speak against corruption, I don’t know whether we should laugh or cry.”
Siddaramaiah Slams BJP-JDS Padayatra
Siddaramaiah also criticised the BJP and JD(S) for not participating in debates on the drought situation in Karnataka while undertaking a 10-day padayatra in Kalyana Karnataka.
“There are burning issues in the state. They didn’t discuss those issues but have gone for a padayatra. This is a gimmick. They don’t have an issue and are doing it only for politics,” he said.
Comparing the BJP’s padayatra with those undertaken by the Congress while it was in Opposition, Siddaramaiah said the Congress campaigns had a clear purpose.
He claimed that his government between 2013 and 2018 had fulfilled 158 of the 165 promises made in its manifesto and accused Opposition parties of failing to stand by their own manifestos.
Emphasising that people are the ultimate authority in a democracy, Siddaramaiah urged the government to reach out to the people and address their concerns.
