Bendoor parish to launch education fund on parish priest’s 75th birthday

Mangalore, Jan 28: The parish of Bendoor will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2014; moreover, the parish will be celebrating the 75th birthday of its present parish priest Rev. Fr. Peter S. Noronha as well as his 50th year in divine service. The parishioners will celebrate the double event is a solemn manner.

An education fund for the benefit of the needy and deserving youth of Bendoor parish will also be launched on the event. This fund will function as a registered trust and will be managed exclusively by the lay people of the parish. Prof. Eric Patrao, the convener of the organizing committee, announced this to the press at the Press Club on the morning of Friday.

Revealing further details of the celebrations, he said that 6 bishops from all over India and 150 priests from all over Karnataka and more than 5,000 people will participate in the event. The high mass will be held on Jan 31, 2011 on the open grounds of St. Sebastian Church, Bendoor between 4:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

The event will feature a specially trained chorus of more than 100 singers and musicians, over 300 volunteers to maintain law and order, a cultural show, refreshments, the formal release of “Voice of Bendoor,” a colorful special edition of the parish magazine, and the launch of the educational trust fund for needy young parishioners.

Fr. Anil D’Mello, the assistant parish priest of Bendoor; Maritto Sequeira, the coordinator of the organizing committee; Secretary Jane Sequeira; Rudolf D’Silva, finance committee leader; Ronald Walder, vice president of the parish pastoral parishad; Secretary Laveena S. John; and Richard Lasrado, the head of the publicity and communications committee, were also present on the occasion.
