
Mangaluru, Jun 10, 2026: Police have arrested two inter-state thieves in connection with burglary cases reported within the Belthangady subdivision and recovered stolen property worth Rs 23.67 lakh.
The arrested accused have been identified as Hameed, a native of Kolladu in Bantwal taluk who is currently residing in Kasaragod, and Jabir alias Jabi (38).
In connection with a case registered following the theft of gold ornaments and cash from a house under the Punjalakatte Police Station limits on April 5, the investigation team had taken Hameed into custody on May 15 and seized the car used in the commission of the crime.
Based on information provided by Hameed during interrogation, police arrested the second accused, Jabir alias Jabi, on June 7.
From the accused, police recovered 68.690 grams of gold ornaments and Rs 2 lakh in cash linked to the Punjalakatte case. They also seized 21.810 grams of gold ornaments connected with a case registered at Uppinangady Police Station in 2025, along with the car used in the offences.
The total value of the recovered property is estimated at Rs 23.67 lakh.
Both the accused were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. Apart from these two cases, investigations have revealed that the accused were involved in five other criminal cases, including one each registered at Uppinangady, Bantwal Town and Belthangady police stations.
