Belthangady: Student dies during treatment after suicide attempt; relationship angle suspected

Belthangady, May 1, 2026: A 19-year-old student who had allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison at her residence has died during treatment at a hospital.

The deceased, Rama (19), was the daughter of Dinesh Naik and Revathi, residents of Mayada Balamandikallu in Belalu village of Belthangady taluk. According to reports, she consumed poison at her home on the night of April 19 in an apparent suicide attempt.

She was subsequently admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru, where she was undergoing treatment. However, she did not respond to treatment and passed away on April 29.

Rama was a second-year degree student at a college in Vamadapadavu. It is learnt that she was in a relationship, and it is suspected that issues related to this may have led to the incident.

A case has been registered at the Dharmasthala police station on April 30, and an investigation is in progress.
