Belthangady, Feb 14, 2026: A shop was completely gutted in a fire accident triggered by a helium gas leak in Belthangady town on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred around 7.30 am on February 14 at KAF Creative Art & Craft Store, owned by Mohammed Sameel, located on the first floor of the Heraje Complex in the Santhekatte area. The fire reportedly broke out while helium gas was being filled into balloons for an event. A gas leak led to a sudden explosion, followed by a blaze, resulting in the shop being completely destroyed.

At the time of the incident, two workers were inside the shop. They managed to run out immediately and escaped unhurt. On receiving information, fire and emergency services personnel rushed to the spot and, with the help of local residents, brought the fire under control.

The flames also caused damage to a few neighbouring shops. However, officials said no major mishap occurred despite the gas leak.

Hundreds of onlookers gathered at the site, leading to temporary traffic disruption. Belthangady police and traffic police promptly arrived and regulated the situation, restoring smooth traffic flow.

Meanwhile, a woman employee from a nearby shop, who was watching the incident, reportedly fainted. She was shifted to a hospital by locals for treatment.
