Belthangady: Kidnapping attempt on minor college student foiled; girl injured in knife attack

Mangaluru, Feb 9, 2026: Three youths allegedly attempted to abduct a minor girl who was on her way to college at Sudemugera in Belthangady taluk.

The accused arrived in a Maruti Omni car and intercepted the minor girl who was travelling to college on a scooter. They tried to forcibly pull her into the car with the intention of kidnapping her. The victim is a 16-year-old first-year PUC student of Kashibettu College. The incident took place at around 8:30 a.m. when she had parked her scooter and was walking towards Santekatte to board a bus.

It is reported that the car’s number plate was covered with cloth, and the three miscreants had also covered their faces. When they attempted to drag her into the vehicle, the girl resisted and raised an alarm. Noticing another scooter approaching from behind, the assailants abandoned their attempt and fled the scene.

During the struggle, the girl sustained stab injuries to her hand and fingers. The accused escaped in the car, taking her college bag with them.

The injured student was admitted to the Belthangady Taluk Government Hospital for treatment. Belthangady police visited the hospital, recorded her statement, registered a case, and have begun an investigation.
