
Belthangady, Mar 11, 2026: Acting on information about illegal storage of diesel at Mudalthiyar in Kaniyoor village of Belthangady, a raid was conducted under the leadership of Belthangady Sub-Division DySP Rohini C.K., along with Uppinangady Circle Inspector and Uppinangady Police Station officials. During the operation, police seized a stock of about 4,000 litres of diesel that had been stored illegally in barrels and cans.
On the night of March 9, police inspected a shed near the house of Jagadeesh (35), a resident of Kaniyoor. During the search, they found 20 barrels of about 200-litre capacity each and five cans of about 35-litre capacity, containing a total of approximately 4,175 litres of diesel. Several empty barrels, cans, and other related materials were also found at the spot.

The total value of the seized items is estimated at ₹3.5 lakh. During questioning, the accused Jagadeesh admitted that the diesel had been stored illegally without any licence and without following safety regulations.
A case has been registered at the Uppinangady Police Station (Crime No. 35/2026) under sections 287 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, Sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and Section 23 of the Petroleum Act, 1934.
