Belthangady, Jul 7, 2026: A 47-year-old man was killed on the spot and his brother sustained serious injuries after a goods autorickshaw collided head-on with their motorcycle near Nittade in the Venoor Police Station limits on the night of July 5.
The deceased has been identified as Ravindra Moolya (47), a resident of Timaradde House in Gandhinagar, Karimanelu village, under the Venoor Gram Panchayat limits. His brother, Jagadish Moolya, suffered severe leg injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru.
The brothers, who worked as masons, were returning to Venoor from Guruvayanakere on their motorcycle after finishing work when a goods autorickshaw travelling from Venoor allegedly collided head-on with their vehicle near Kumbhashree School at Nittade.
The impact of the collision threw the motorcycle off balance. Ravindra sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot, while Jagadish suffered serious injuries to his legs. The autorickshaw driver, along with local residents, shifted the injured man to the hospital.
According to preliminary information, the accident occurred after the goods autorickshaw allegedly swerved into the opposite lane while trying to avoid a small pothole on the highway at Nittade. Rain at the time is believed to have reduced visibility, preventing the motorcyclists from noticing the vehicle in time.
A case has been registered at the Venoor Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
