Mangalore, Oct 14, 2013: The bold revelation made by Hindu leader Mahesh Shetty Thimarody and the parents of Sowjanya that Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari was shielding the accused in the rape and murder case of the Ujire SDM College student, no doubt has enthused the people of Belthangady taluk and has strengthened the fight for justice in the case.
As if to prove this, hundreds of people had gathered at Gundya to welcome the three who arrived from Bangalore after participating in a TV interview of a private channel, during which they showed the courage to make the revelation. They were taken in a procession to Belthangady where a huge protest was staged.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi said the fight for justice for Sowjanya will continue and added that severe protest would be staged in the days to come if the government failed to hand over the case to CBI. Those responsible for the brutal rape and murder of an innocent student should be punished, he demanded.
“We expected that a few people would arrive to protect us. But we are overwhelmed to see the huge support,” he said and added this revealed that Belthangady people are with them.
Sources said the staff of the Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala tried to obstruct the procession as it passed through the road in front of the gates of the shrine. There is also information that hundreds of police personnel who were present ensured that there was no untoward incident. Reports state that there was tension in the air for some time in the area.
