Belthangady: Absconding accused arrested after 10 years

Belthangady, Jan 22, 2026: Police have arrested an accused who had been absconding for the past 10 years without appearing before the court in connection with a cheating case registered at the Belthangady police station.

The accused has been identified as S. N. Chandregowda, a resident of Channarayapatna in Hassan district. In 2009, a case was registered against him at the Belthangady police station for allegedly cheating a person by collecting money on the promise of providing a biogas connection. After the case was registered, he failed to appear for court proceedings and went into hiding.

Acting on credible information, Belthangady police traced Chandregowda and arrested him on January 20 at Belagihalli in Channarayapatna, Hassan district. He was later brought to Belthangady and produced before the court.
