Belthangady: 15-year-old boy’s death ruled murder after post-mortem reveals multiple head injuries; four teams to probe

Belthangady, January 15, 2026: The post-mortem examination of Sumant (15), a resident of Odilnal village in Sambolya, who died under unusual circumstances while going to the temple, was conducted at Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru. During the examination, it was found that the boy had received three strong blows to the head. Following this, the police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the case.

Preliminary information from the post-mortem report indicates that the boy received three strong strikes to the head, possibly from a knife or some other weapon. It is suspected that he may have fallen into a ditch while in a semi-conscious state, and the post-mortem revealed water in his lungs. However, a clear explanation regarding the head injuries is not yet available. Therefore, to conduct a thorough and detailed investigation, this unnatural death case is being treated as a murder case.

For a comprehensive investigation, four teams have been formed under the leadership of the Belthangady DSP, the police said.
