Bellare POCSO case: Court sentences 64-year-old man to 5 years in jail, fines Rs 35,000

Mangaluru, Aug 21, 2026: A court in Mangaluru has sentenced a 64-year-old man to five years of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹35,000 in connection with a 2020 case involving the sexual assault and criminal intimidation of a minor in the Bellare police station limits.

The accused, Abdullah (64), a resident of Kudmaru in Kadaba taluk, was convicted by the 7th Additional District and Sessions Court, Mangaluru.


POCSO case

A case was registered against Abdullah at the Bellare police station under Sections 354(A1) and 506 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act (Crime No. 12/2020).

After a detailed trial, Judge Sumangala Chakalabbi found the accused guilty of the offences. The court sentenced him to five years of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹35,000. In case of failure to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional six months of simple imprisonment.

Then-Sullia Circle Inspector Naveen Chandra Jogi conducted the investigation, collected the necessary evidence and filed the chargesheet before the court. Public Prosecutor Pushparaj represented the prosecution and argued the case on behalf of the government.
