Basadi burglary : Cops come under fire for not charge sheeting accused

Moodbidri, Sep 25, 2013 :  The  bail granted to the  two accused in the case of burglary of antique idols from Siddantha Darshana Mandir in Moodbidri, solely for the reason that the police failed to charge sheet the two,  has made the public point fingers towards the lackadaisical approach of the police authorities in a case which is considered one  the biggest archeological heists in the state in the recent decades.

Interestingly, even the High Court had recently denied bail to the two accused namely Deeptimayi Mohanti, the wife of the prime accused Santosh Das and  her father Digambar Mohanty.

 At a time when seven of the stolen antique idols have not yet been traced, the release of the accused on bail may dim the chances of tracing the  idols, feel many who now vent their ire over the cops for being negligent in  filing charge sheet against the accused in such a high profile case.
