Moodbidri, Oct 3, 2013 : A symbolic hunger strike under the leadership of Jain Mutt seer Sri Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji was organised at the Savira Kamba Basadi premises here on October 2, Wednesday demanding a CBI probe into the Siddantha Darshana Mandir burglary case wherein antique idols worth several thousands of crores of rupees have been stolen.
Speaking on the occasion, the seer said so far the police have been able to trace only seven idols while eight have not yet been found. As the probe has slowed down, there is a need for a CBI probe, he added. He also warned that if necessary a national level protest too would be organised.
Minister for Youth Services K Abhayachandra Jain and former union minister Janardhana Poojari also visited the protest venue and pledged their support. Poojari even telephoned the Chief Minister and sought a CBI probe and said the CM assured to discuss the issue in the cabinet.
Sri Lalithakeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji of Karkala Jain Mutt, Sri Lakshmisena Bhattaraka Swamiji of Narasimha Rajapura Jain Mutta, Sri Vrishabhasena Bhattaraka Swamiji of Lakkavalli Jain Mutt, Sri Bhanukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji of Kambadahalli Jain Mutt and Sri Kshulluka Siddantha Keertha Swamiji of Shrravanabelagola Jain Mutt participated in the protest.
Various leaders including MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, RSS leader Kalladka Prabhaker Bhat, MLCSs Monappa Bhandari, Ganesh Karnik, Fr Basil Vas of Alangar Church, Abdurrehman of Moodbidri Jumma Masjid and others too visited the protest venue and pledged support for the cause.
Around 2000 people took part in the protest which concluded at 5 pm after the protestors consumed lemon drink.
CM responds positively : Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that the issue of entrusting the case to the CBI would be taken after discussing the matter at the cabinet meeting.The CM gave the assurance during a telephonic conversation with the Jain Mutt seer.
The seer who said he was satisfied with the CM’s assurance, at the same time warned that a severe protest would be organized if the demand was not fulfilled.
