Bantwal : ’Wedding’ chain snatcher arrested

Bantwal, May 2, 2013: A woman named Shashikala from Neermarga   was arrested by the Bantwal Police at BC Road on May 1, Wednesday on the charges of snatching chains of children mostly at wedding ceremonies.

Interrogations of the accused revealed that  she  had sold  as much as 51 grams of the stolen jewellery at various jewellery shops. Police also recovered gold worth Rs 1.4 lakh which she had sold to jewellery stores.

Sources said she was involved in thefts since two years. So far four cases have been registered against her., The police were able to apprehend her on the basis of  video footage taken at one of the wedding functions.
